Typically, a <strong>microsite</strong> resides on the same Web server and reflects the branding and overall visual design of the larger site with which it is associated. <p>1. You are looking to develop more leads, thus using various URL addresses tied to key words and longtails.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ok, so I am not ashamed to admit that I am a Star Wars fan BUT was born and raised a Trekkie!</p>
<p>I have also envisioned asking my cell phone questions and having it answer me as if it were some type of weird artificial intelligence with perfect speech or something.  As a tech nerd I am sure many out there can relate with these type of day dreams.</p>
<p>Now Google seems to be taking steps even further to make this &#8220;day dream&#8221; into our actual reality.  Well maybe not the AI part but the part about perfect speech.  I am sure that artificial intelligence will be the next eventual step for these voice type of companies.</p>
<p>So with Google acquiring the UK based company, <a title="Phonetic Arts" href="http://phonetic-arts.com/index.html" target="_blank">Phonetic Arts</a> just this morning, they are now on the fast track to improve their existing voice services.  From entering in Captcha off of a voice verification or just using your regular mobile voice commands, we will now start to see these services come to life.  So instead of getting frustrated by the current voice verification and commands getting everything wrong and not being clear, we may start to feel a sigh of relief with this irritation quickly becoming an issue of the past.</p>
<p>Talk about hands free, maybe we will even get our e-mails, messages, status and results delivered to us by speech.  Which means on the road, while traveling or while working and multitasking.  Gosh, can we have this now?</p>
<p>I wonder if this means the next step in <a title="mobile marketing" href="http://www.mcintoshmarketing.com/mobile" target="_blank">mobile marketing</a> will be voice e-mails instead of stupid flash, pop up, or robotic sounding  messages.  Hmmm&#8230; not sure which is better.  I guess we will see.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s no mystery that EVERYONE uses social media for their personal and business communications, often to the exclusion of live, physical, in-front-of-another-person communication. Friends find out where and when to meet their friends via Twitter mobile apps. Celebrity tweets keep you informed of the latest news, scandals and rants. Investors get their skinny via stock tweets. Shoppers find the latest deals via Facebook and Twitter feeds. Welcome to the 21st Century.</p>
<p>Social media is so integral to our daily lives that the threat of not using it for even a day is almost unthinkable. Which is exactly why that threat is being used to now raise $1M for charity.</p>
<p>Justin Timberlake, Ryan Seacrest, Lady Gaga, and numerous other celebrities have joined forces in a charity called <a href="http://keepachildalive.org/">&#8220;Buy Life&#8221;</a> which is the brainchild of Alicia Keys. These stars have decided to ban their own use of social media until $1M is donated to this charity, which is dedicated to providing treatment, care and support to those in Africa and India affected by HIV and AIDS.  These celebrities are taking a stand about something they feel is more important than their own lifeline to humanity via the internet, thereby giving up their own &#8220;life&#8221; for that of others.</p>
<p>Ok, they&#8217;re not really giving up their own lives, true. But when this is your main means of communication to the public and your entire career is based on your communication to the public, it&#8217;s kind of a big deal. And those of us whose careers are based on internet traffic know how big of a deal this actually is.</p>

<p><a title="Derek Parham" href="http://news.softpedia.com/news/Google-Apps-Users-Now-Have-Access-to-Any-Google-Service-Picasa-YouTube-and-All-167566.shtml" target="_blank">Derek Parham</a>, lead software engineer for Google apps, has been disclosing all kinds of information about the powerful abilities of this new infrastructure.  Including how there will be over 60 Google services being offered compared to the limited services from regular use of apps.</p>
<p>With fun new little apps constantly rolling out it is hard to keep up with everything Google is doing right now.  Like the new version of the Google Sky Map that let&#8217;s you not only look at the sky in current time but now let&#8217;s you travel through time&#8230; that&#8217;s right, it let&#8217;s  you see what the sky looked like at any time of day and year that you would like from 1900 to 2100.  This app is just for the Android and may not very helpful but it is awfully neat.</p>
<p>Google is quickly recovering from any slides in being the ultimate search engine giant with all of these new apps and announcements rolling out left and right, not to mention the mergers and other company buyouts!  One that has really caught my attention, as I am sure it will with everyone else, is the ability to <a title="edit Google Docs" href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2010/11/google-docs-editing-coming-to-iphone-ipad-and-android-phones-tablets.html" target="_blank">edit Google Docs</a> right from your iPhone, iPad and even the Android devices.  Well honestly this announcement had me at Android!  I get so frustrated on a regular basis when I take a file with me or retrieve one from my phone and I can&#8217;t even edit the darn thing.  I can&#8217;t even imagine how many times I have thought why the heck they just don&#8217;t have an editing app?  Or something&#8230;</p>
<p>Well, now they do, or will, with in the next few days.</p>

<p>With every &#8220;evolution&#8221; that comes about in the world of online marketing there are a new &#8220;breed&#8221; of online marketing &#8220;experts&#8221; (Uhh hhmm) that emerge and proclaim themselves the keepers of the secret keys to your online success.</p>
<p>Yeah, whatever!</p>
<p>Yes there are changes that occur from time to time in the way the search engines manage their search results. There always will be. There always have been.</p>
<p>And yes you have to learn about those changes and adapt and innovate. But one has to do this on a regular basis in business anyway just to stay in business.</p>
<p>I have observed that when changes occur and a new idea is presented, in the <a href="http://www.mcintoshmarketing.com">online marketing</a> space particularly, one of the most powerful rules of marketing is simply tossed aside and ignored. That rule is &#8220;<strong>If it isn&#8217;t broken, don&#8217;t fix it!</strong>&#8221; Or stated another way, &#8220;<strong>If it is working don&#8217;t change it </strong>!&#8221;</p>
<p>I see people in business throw away all their common sense when they get into &#8220;online marketing&#8221;. They stop all the best practices and start buying all kinds of tools and software and gimmicks and &#8220;Secret Internet how to guides&#8221; and hire &#8220;teenagers&#8221; and &#8220;students&#8221; to handle their marketing.</p>
<p>They would never even consider those actions in the offline portion of their business.</p>
<p>Yet they take these strange and unprecedented actions on an aspect of their business that could easily become far more important in terms of driving in business that their offline efforts.</p>
<p>Look the bottom line is that the standard best practices of SEO and PPC work. In fact the principles of SEO apply even more today with all the changes that have taken place over the last couple of years than they did before.<br />
There are new things you can do now, but they do not change what has worked well the last 3 or 4 years.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.mcintoshmarketing.com">McIntosh Marketing</a> are experts as online marketing. I hate to call anyone an expert. I cringe at the thought. But this group is expert at this.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Just like every Tuesday, I will today be covering a new Google feature: The search engine just rolled out its Instant Preview feature, which allows you to preview a page right from the SERPS, by clicking a magnificent glass located on the right of each listing. While this isn&#8217;t a groundbreaking move, as I remember several minor search engines boosting a similar feature years ago, this is certainly a useful addition that allows users to save some time on clicking back and forth.</p>
<p>What does it mean for you? Well, it emphasizes the need for a nice look and feel rather than some ugly junk design, as if people don&#8217;t like what they&#8217;re seeing in preview, they won&#8217;t be clicking on your site, which will result in drop in traffic. So I would suggest previewing all your sites and looking at competitors, from a user point of view, which should give you an idea about what you might need to improve to make sure users click your listings.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I guess there isn&#8217;t one week without Google rolling out a new feature. Starting this week, you should start seeing links for Brands, Stores and Types at the top of your search result page when looking for a product.</p>
<p>For example, if you&#8217;re looking for a <a href="http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;q=digital+camera">digital camera</a>, you can see 5 links for camera brands, 5 links for stores where you can  buy cameras and 5 links for popular types of digital cameras (waterproof, compact, etc &#8230;).</p>
<p>One one hand this is quite a useful feature that should help you with searches, at least when you are in an early stage of the buying circle looking for information but, on the other hand, this looks like it will mostly emphasize big brands and stores that are already omnipresent in organic and paid results, thus undermining the influence of smaller e-commerce sites and brands.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re in a small niche, it might however be beneficial to your store or brand, so make sure you keep your SEO on track as it might help you win on of these much-coveted spots on the <a href="http://www.mcintoshmarketing.com/products-services/get-on-the-first-page-of-google">first page of Google</a> &#8230;</p>
